Signs of the Times honors Gable with Best Electric Freestanding Sign award for Cabana Bay Beach Resort entrance marquee.

Baltimore, Md. – Gable, creator and provider of world-class custom sign and architectural graphics projects for the built environment, was recently awarded First Place/Best of Show in the Electric Freestanding Sign category of the Signs of The Times 2015 International Sign Contest.

Emerging from a highly competitive field, Gable earned the prestigious award for the fabrication and installation of Cabana Bay Beach Resort’s 60-foot-tall entrance marquee at Universal Studios Orlando Resort in Orlando, Fla. The International Sign Contest honors designers and fabricators from diverse backgrounds based on the merits of their craftsmanship, complexity and artistry. Awards were presented this year at the 2015 International Sign Expo in Las Vegas, Nev.

“We are honored to be given this prestigious recognition,” said Paul Gable, President of Gable,  “Our work at Cabana Bay Beach Resort demonstrates the GableSigns commitment to being at the forefront of our industry and creating the best of the best in world-class displays.”

The Cabana Bay Beach Resort entrance marquee, designed by Orlando’s Wrenhouse Design, is adorned with shimmering stars and a rainbow of neon colors — featuring EGL aqua, clear gold, turquoise, neo-blue and ruby-red luminous tubing. To reinforce the 1950s and 60s family-friendly feel of the resort, Gable mixed custom paint colors reflective of the era, such as teal, yellow and peach pastels.

Gable fabricated the sign with custom, steel, compound-rolled, perforated cylinders and posts, as well as radius-curved “clouds” of copy. Gable also built custom-rolled ramps, which Gable Senior Design Consultant Curtis Arbaugh likened to “skateboard ramps,” to secure the neon and channel letters.

The entrance marquee was one of hundreds of signs Gable completed for Cabana Bay Beach Resort prior to its opening in 2014. Gable’s work at the resort also included 942 room identity signs, rooftop signs and a hotel entrance monument.
