With Manufacturing Day 2025 coming up, it’s a perfect time to reflect on the impact of this initiative from the Manufacturing Institute. MFG Day empowers manufacturers to come together to address shared challenges and spark excitement about careers that strengthen communities and future generations.
In the 24 years I’ve been here at Gable, I’ve seen firsthand how manufacturing drives creativity and innovation, supports local jobs, and creates opportunities for growth. Through the efforts of educators, industry organizations, advocates, and influencers, the next generation is encouraged to explore careers that shape both communities and the future. It’s inspiring to work alongside such committed individuals and see the difference their efforts make every day.
In this blog, we’re highlighting a few organizations across Maryland that are sparking innovation and making a lasting impact on the future of manufacturing.

Organizations Making a Difference for Aspiring Manufacturers in Maryland
University of Maryland
The University of Maryland plays a key role in shaping how educators prepare students for career pathways in manufacturing and technical fields. Programs like their Work-Based Learning certification ensure that teachers gain firsthand exposure to industry environments, so they can pass that insight along to their students.
During their visit to Gable, educators explored our operations, asked thoughtful questions, and learned about the wide range of roles that support our work. That experience now becomes a resource they can share with their own students, inspiring future talent to see what’s possible in industries like ours.

Center of Applied Technology North (CATN)
CAT North is one of Maryland’s leading centers for career and technical education, offering more than 20 programs that prepare high school students with practical skills for in-demand industries. Events like their career fair bring students face-to-face with local companies, connecting classroom learning to real-world opportunities.
When we participated, it was rewarding to see students engaging directly with industry professionals and exploring the career paths that could await them. Experiences like these help young people see how their training translates into meaningful careers, building confidence and ambition in tomorrow’s workforce.

Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corporation (AAWDC)
AAWDC serves as a driving force in connecting people with careers that contribute to the state’s economic growth. Through hiring expos, training programs, and community partnerships, they create pathways for talented professionals to discover industries they may not have considered before, including manufacturing.
At their Hiring Expo at Live Casino & Hotel Maryland, we had the chance to share the variety of roles that keep a company like Gable moving forward, from design and engineering to fabrication and technology. By opening doors to new possibilities, AAWDC ensures that both employers and job seekers have the resources they need to thrive.

What We’ve Noticed Through These Experiences
Working with these incredible organizations has given us a unique perspective on how people view this field. One of the most common reactions we see during tours, events, and conversations is surprise at the sheer variety of what takes place. Visitors often expect to see fabrication and assembly, but they are fascinated to also discover areas like vinyl production, finishing, and detailed craftsmanship.
Beyond the shop floor, many are equally intrigued by the behind-the-scenes processes that keep projects moving forward. Project management, logistics, engineering, and technology all play a critical role in success. Together, these areas show that there is not just one path into an industrial career. Whether someone is interested in hands-on work, creative problem-solving, or coordinating complex operations, this field offers a wide range of opportunities.
