By Ross Hancock, Senior Vice President of Business Development at Gable.
As the head of business development at Gable, a company with a 40+-year history in Baltimore, Maryland, I’ve come to understand that the term “sign” can mean different things to different people.
For some, it might evoke images of a yard sale or a golf sponsorship sign. For others, it could represent a single or multi-location retail storefront to attract shoppers. However, it can also refer to a comprehensive, omnichannel signage system encompassing interiors, exteriors, wayfinding, digital signage and LED displays, retail media networks, and integrated lighting solutions.
As you can imagine, when I hear someone needs a sign, I have several follow-up questions. And when someone asks me what I do for a living, I ask, “How much time do you have?” 😀
At our core, Gable is in the signage and fabrication business. It’s the foundation upon which we’ve built our reputation over the past four decades right here in Baltimore. Locally, we’re best known for creating custom signs and letters for businesses that distinguish, attract, and impress.
We Do Things The Baltimore Way
To fellow local businesses, we are active community members not only for sign work but also employ a large team of craftspeople who work with precision, passion, and pride. We give back, and we don’t give up—it’s the Baltimore way, and it’s in our DNA.
Our Maryland pride extends from our headquarters on Fort Smallwood Road in Baltimore to places you might drive by daily, like Himmel’s Landscape & Garden Center, which needed an illuminated pylon sign, or the University of Maryland, which wanted an 8-foot-tall aluminum sculpture created as part of its “Do Good” campaign. If you’re an O’s fan (come on — these days, who isn’t an O’s fan?), you may have seen the work we did at Camden Yards in collaboration with Wasserman, the Baltimore Orioles, and Molson Coors. Gable fabricated and installed the illuminated channel letters and logo for the Coors Light Roof Deck. This is the largest sign at the ballpark, and we’re honored to have played a role in such a prominent project.
Baltimore’s Built Environment & Beyond
However, as we’ve grown and evolved, we’ve come to recognize that our work extends far beyond the traditional concept of “signs.” Today, we prefer to describe what we do as “visual communications for the built environment.”
This broader perspective allows us to showcase the full range of our capabilities and expertise and provide turnkey solutions to clients across several industries.
From designing and manufacturing custom signage to developing cutting-edge digital displays, and architectural fabrication and lighting, we’re constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the realm of visual communication.
While our roots are firmly planted in Baltimore, our reach extends nationwide. We’ve had the privilege of working with clients across the country, bringing our innovative approach and commitment to quality to projects of all sizes and scopes.
As a Baltimore sign company and beyond, we take pride in our ability to combine local expertise with national reach. We’re dedicated to helping our clients communicate their brands, messages, and stories through powerful, impactful visual solutions that resonate with their target audiences.
